<p>This is one of my favourite breakfast place &amp; visit this stall almost everytime whenever I do my marketing at Bayan Baru wet market located next to Sunshine Square. Plan to have my favourite plate, Char Hor Fun today but out of stock as I arrived there quite late. I&#8217;ll talk about it next time when I got a chance to take an order &amp; snap the photo. But for this time, I am presenting you all the mixed version of fried char koay teow &amp; bee hoon. As usual, the economy fried nooddle is a plain noodle fried with tauge, soya sauce &amp; egg but the one I had here is good &amp; tasty. If you visit here don&#8217;t forget to ask for &#8217;sambal&#8217; coz it&#8217;s really can put more ummpp into your noddle. </p>
<p>The stall located at the far left (if you are facing at the main entrance of the hawker center). If you are coming from the wet market, turn left toward the toilet. Next to the stall are Hokien Mee stall (on the right) &amp; Nyonya kuih stall (on the left). Damn! I&#8217;m not sure what is the stall&#8217;s number. Sorry ya!!!</p>

<p>Simple Dinner at Bangkok Tomyam
<p>No. Don&#8217;t be surprised. I&#8217;m not having my dinner in Bangkok. This is the name of a Thai seafood restaurant located in Bayan Lepas, Penang. The restaurant&nbsp;runs by&nbsp; Thai Muslim from southern Thailand with their own trademark. There are plenty of similar restaurants in Malaysia especially in the big cities like Kuala Lumpur, Penang and Johor. They normally operated in a simple restaurant with no air-conditioning but you&#8217;ll be surprised to see the crowd there. Their trademark is, for sure, Tomyam! And also some other delicious dishes that you can&#8217;t find from a typical Thai restaurant especially &#8220;Daging Merah&#8221; and soup (oxtail, beef &amp; chicken soup).
<p>Bangkok Tomyam is one of my favorite place for Thai seafood the southern style. I only had a simple dinner tonight with my wife. We ordered our usual dishes everytime we visit this place, seafood Tomyam and &#8220;Daging Merah&#8221;. </p>
<p><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterbangkoktomyambayanlepaspenang-14af1dsc0016273.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterbangkoktomyambayanlepaspenang-14af1dsc00162-thumb53.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>I like the tomyam here as they are not using tomyam paste for flavoring. &#8216;Daging Merah&#8217; is a thin slice of beef that is fried to tenderness before stir frying it with onion and soya sauce. I&#8217;ve tried &#8220;Daging Merah&#8221; from many other places in Penang and can say that this one is the best.
<p><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterbangkoktomyambayanlepaspenang-14af1dsc00163103.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterbangkoktomyambayanlepaspenang-14af1dsc00163-thumb83.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a> &nbsp;</p>
<p>Besides good food, it&#8217;s also well known for cleanliness and good &amp; speedy service. You don&#8217;t need to wait so long to get your food even with all tables fully occupied.</p>
<p><strong>Name: Bangkok Tomyam<br /></strong><strong><font color="#008040">GPS Coordinate:&nbsp;N5°17.856&#8242; E100°15.820&#8242; <br /></font>How to get there: </strong><strong><font color="#008040"><font color="#0000ff">[</font><a href="http://maps.google.com/maps?f=d&amp;hl=en&amp;geocode=&amp;saddr=5.297662,100.263666&amp;daddr=&amp;mra=mi&amp;mrsp=0&amp;sz=17&amp;sll=5.297652,100.263655&amp;sspn=0.008066,0.011265&amp;ie=UTF8&amp;z=17"><font color="#0000ff">GOOGLE MAP</font></a></font><font color="#0000ff">]<br /></font></strong><strong>Location:&nbsp;Bayan Lepas,&nbsp;Penang<br />Contact: N/A<br />Business&nbsp;Hours:&nbsp;6:00pm - 10:00pm&nbsp;<br />Food Type: Thai Food - Southern Style (Muslim)<br />Halal : YES<br />Parking: No dedicated parking lot but plenty and easy to find along road side</strong></p>

<p>Had a quick dinner last night&nbsp;at the Qiu Seafood restaurant&nbsp;located at&nbsp;Desaria Commercial Center, Sg. Ara, Penang&nbsp;opposite&nbsp;Nasi Kandar Dinas&nbsp;(Sg. Ara branch). This&nbsp;restaurant offer seafood &amp; non-seafood dishes at the reasonable price. One of my favorite I would say.
<p>For a simple dinner, we ordered only 3 dishes - fish curry, stir fried chai-ta with salted fish &amp; stir fried &#8220;kepah&#8221; (&#8221;<em>sea-mussel</em>&#8220;) with curry powder (&#8221;char kam hiong&#8221; in Hokkien).
<p>I like the curry here which being prepared in Nyonya style. You can opt for either fish meat or fish head (normally Ikan Siakap or &#8220;<em>Barramundi</em>&#8220;, also called &#8220;<i>Asian</i> <i>Seabass&#8221;</i> or &#8220;<i>Giant Perch&#8221;)</i>. We ordered fish meat curry this time because we&#8217;re in the rush sending&nbsp;our kids&nbsp;to tuition class. If not, fish head curry will be my choice&nbsp;as more time needed to really enjoy it. <strong>Price = RM24.00</strong><br /><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/QueSeafoodRestaurantNonHalal_42/DSC00662.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="393" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/QueSeafoodRestaurantNonHalal_42/DSC00662_thumb.jpg" width="524" border="0"></a>
<p>Next come the stir fried vegetable (&#8221;chai-ta&#8221;) with salted fish which I would said very well prepared &amp; taste good. The vege was crunchy &amp; the salted fish was not too salted and crispy too. This is the first time we ordered this dish &amp; it&#8217;s turned out to be unbelievable good. <strong>Price = RM8.00</strong><br /><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/QueSeafoodRestaurantNonHalal_42/DSC00659.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="393" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/QueSeafoodRestaurantNonHalal_42/DSC00659_thumb.jpg" width="524" border="0"></a>
<p>Stir fried &#8220;kepah&#8221; or &#8220;sea-mussel&#8221; with curry powder (&#8221;char kam hiong&#8221; in Hokkien) is our favorite dish especially for our kids. This is the must everytime we visit Qiu. The thick &amp; strong gravy really enhance the taste of the dish. Tried this type of dish in many places but this is the best for me so far! <strong>Price = RM8.00<br />Total damage (plus drink) = RM47.00</strong></p>

<p></strong>
<p>Thinking to blog about food &amp; travel for a long long time but never get a chance. I always enjoy reading food &amp; travel blogs out there in the cyberspace which inspired me to document my experiences in my own blog.
<p>Comes weekend, we (my family &amp; me) will go out hunting for food&nbsp;along with our&nbsp;2&nbsp;important weapons&nbsp;:&nbsp;Camera &amp; GPS. Most of the time I&#8217;m using camera phone to capture the photo and use Garmin Nuvi 200 GPS to navigate &amp; log all locations visited. Thanks to <a href="http://www.malsingmaps.com"><strong><font color="#0000ff">Malsingmaps.com</font></strong></a> for FREE Malaysia &amp; Singapore map.</p>
<p>Been to Jitra last Sunday visiting my sister and her familiy. Her husband just opened the shop selling musical instrument in Jitra town located just right infront of Jitra Mall (Aneka Supermarket). Actually been passing thru this small town many time in the past but have no time to stop by to check out for food. I don&#8217;t want to miss a chance this time for my first meal in Jitra town.
<p>After checking the guitars &amp; some other musical instruments, we heading to 5 UTARA&nbsp;Restaurant for lunch. Located next to the main road, this restaurant serve Halal Thai food. There were a big crowd when we reached there with usual Malaysian multi racial patronages as well as waiters/waitreses, Malay, Chinese, Indian &amp; Thai. It so happen that the waiteress attended to our table is local Thai, so we ordered our food in Thai which allow us to ask for special customization. </p>
<p><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0064954.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="376" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00649-thumb54.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>Here are the list of foods that we ordered.
<p>Fried egg (telur dadar) or omelete as they called it at the international level. We opted for the plain fried egg as it&#8217;s goes along very well with Kheang Som (masak asam Thai syle). You might want to try this! What you do is, deep it into the Kheang Som&#8217;s soup, lift it up &amp; carefully put it into your mouth. The soup that absorbed into the egg really enhance the taste of Kheang Som when you eat it. I will never missed this combination when I had Kheang Som. Learned this trick from my auntie in Thailand &amp; hooked with it since then. <br /><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0063725.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00637-thumb25.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>Next is &#8220;Phat Phet Kuang&#8221; or stir fry hot and spicy deer meat. This one is good! The meat is soo tender &amp; the gravy was really kick ass. I don&#8217;t know how to describe how nice it is. But if you like Thai style hot &amp; spicy stuff, you should not miss this dish.<br /><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0064029.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00640-thumb25.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>The third dish is &#8220;Deep Fried Kang Kong&#8221; another favourite dish available in most Thai restaurant &amp; my kids really like it. It should be better if it is serve with Thai hot &amp; spicy sauce instead of normal chily sauce.
<p><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0064127.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00641-thumb25.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>Next is the fish ball &amp; tofu soup. This is specailly ordered for kids but it&#8217;s good to cool down the temperature after having spicy food. Nothing special in this bowl of soup. <br /><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0063828.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00638-thumb24.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>Now come the dish of the day! &#8220;Kheang Som Pla Kraphong&#8221; or Ikan Siakap Masak Asam in Malay. We opted for the fried version of fish as it&#8217;s really give different taste (better taste IMHO) compare to the steamed version. The soup is really kick ass!!! Enough sours &amp; spicy taste. The only set back is the&nbsp;coconut shoots that being served together with the soup were not really fresh. Other than that, I would say this another superb &#8220;Kheang Som&#8221; that I ever had. <br /><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0064228.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00642-thumb24.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p><a href="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc0064363.jpg" atomicselection="true"><img style="border-top-width: 0px; border-left-width: 0px; border-bottom-width: 0px; border-right-width: 0px" height="375" src="http://foodtracker.ultimatehotzone.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/02/windowslivewriterrestorenutara5jitrakedah-149fcdsc00643-thumb63.jpg" width="500" border="0"></a>
<p>The last dish came to our table is &#8220;Pla Merk Neng Manau&#8221; or steamed squid with lime juice. The gravy was so nice &amp; strong (&#8221;khaw&#8221;) plus with fresh squid.&nbsp;The best part is the squid came with full of eggs in its stomach.&nbsp;

<p>I highly recommend this restaurant for a good food with reasonable price. <strong>Total damage is RM91.00</strong> (plus drink). So next time when you visit Jitra,&nbsp;don&#8217;t forget to check out Restoran 5 Utara. </p>
